5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book! November 7, 2012
By Jillian
How To Make Money Buying Storage Unit Auctions was an awesome book. I've purchased a few books and money making programs on the subject of storage auctions and this is by far my favorite. The book explains what a storage auction is and how they typically work and are run. This was great as I would have been feeling lost attending my first auction without reading this book and having first known what to expect, when to show up, what I need to bring, etc. A lot of other people at the auction showed up without locks and flashlights because they didn't know any better, however since I had read the book I had cash since many auctions don't accept plastic, I had a lock, gloves, and a flashlight, wound up getting a great unit too!!! The book also talks auction strategy, how to pick good units, how to sell the merchandise and even how to expand this business in to a resale shop or other brick and mortar store. Glad I bought the book would recommend it to anyone looking to attend a storage unit auction.

There's a ton of books on Amazon about how to make money buying storage units and I've bought and read a number of them. This is by far the best of the bunch.

Most of the books on this subject are vague and generic and filled with common sense info you don't need to read about. Others are teasers filled with nothing but advertisements on how you need to buy their other books or their "program" which sells for $129.

This book is well written, well organized and has all the basics you need to know before attending your first storage auction. If your a newbie and unsure how the process works the author runs you through what an auction is like so you don't feel dumb. The author also addresses topics such as how to pick good units, how to sell your merchandise and other questions helpful for someone breaking into the industry.

If your thinking about attending your first storage auction I'd highly recommend you pick up this book first!!!

I got this book out of curiosity to see if there was any new info... I read through and this is a great book for the beginner, laid out and easy to understand. Myself I have been around the block a time or two so I didn't learn anything new but I would suggest this book for someone that was thinking about trying storage auctions out.

Storage Wars Canada - Wanna Be On The Show - Here's How To Apply

So you're probably familiar with the hit reality television series Storage Wars. Storage Wars is rolling out a new edition, Storage Wars Canada. The producers are currently looking for bidders, appraisers, and auction hunters. They are looking for interesting people and personalities that stand out.

The A&E series is interesting to watch for the auction aspect but some of the interesting cast of characters is also what makes this show a hit with viewers. Whether it's the no nonsense style of David Hester or the outlandish hijinks of Barry Weiss, the characters are sometimes what makes the show entertaining.

If you live in Canada and are part of the Storage Auction scene and think you have what it takes to be on the show you can apply by sending a resume, a photo of yourself, and a brief description of yourself and your auction experience to storagetv@propertelevision.com or you can visit the site and fill out an online application.

The new series Storage Wars Canada is set to begin shooting in May of 2013 in Ontario.

Storage Wars Auctioneer Laura Dotson Breaks Her Silence, Speaks To Dave Hesters Allegations Of The Show Being Fake

You may remember Dave Hester from the Origional Storage Wars cast was making all types of allegations against the show.

Now television auctioneer Laura Dotson from the show claims she has proof the hit A&E series Storage Wars is not rigged.

She is quoted as saying... "I can say Dave Hester still comes to our auctions, even though there's animosity that he's not on the show. If it was rigged, why would he show up?"

She makes a good point, if the auctions are rigged why would you attend them and risk losing money. That said just because the auction values aren't rigged doesn't mean the show isn't heavily edited so I don't know where I stand on this issue.

Laura Dotson runs the auctions on Storage Wars along with her husband Dan Dotson. If you've watched the show in the past you are probably familiar with both of them.

This is the first time she or her husband have spoken on this issue of "bid rigging" since it was hit by the allegations from former star David Hester in December of 2012. He filed a lawsuit alleging the show is fake.

Up til this point Dan Dotson has done all the talking to refute Dave Hesters claims he was fired from Storage Wars for insisting the producers salt the lockers meaning they put extra stuff in to make the show more exciting.

Hester is currently engaged in a dispute with A&E. Dave Hester has accused the show of planting valuable memorbilia in the lockers. It's interesting how Dave Heseter didn't have any issues with the show until he threw a fit about his pay and then was apparently fired from the show. As long as he was the star getting a paycheck he didn't seem to take issue with any of his complaints if they even are true.

Storage Wars Auction Buyer Allegedly Buys Reality Star Tila Tequila's Storage Unit

Well because it's been established reality television shows like Storage Wars are either completely fake or at the very least heavily edited I don't know that I believe this story wasn't staged for ratings for the show as well as to get Tila Tequila back in the spotlight but it's been reported a storage auction buyer from the A&E show "Storage Wars" recently bought a storage unit belonging to internet sensation and model as well as reality tv star Tila Tequila.

Her unit was allegedly up for auction last month at a Hollywood area storage facility. This particular unit sold for $3,000.

I imagine you probably know of Tila Tequila the myspace celebrity turned reality tv star but if you havn't she's appeared in Men's Magazines like Maxim and Penthouse and had her own reality show on MTV called "A Shot At Love" which ran for two seasons.

The unit has allegedly been untouched as the buyer is attempting to negotiate with news outlets and television stations to be present when the property is sorted and searched.

Well, it will be interesting to see what this unit yields. I've heard rumors the owner found her diary. We'll see if therer's any truth to the rumors.

Article About California Storage Auctions - Discusses Crowds & Finds

Stumbled across this article recently. Briefly describes what a storage auction is and then goes on to discuss how the crowds have grown since the television shows have come on.

They highlight one women and a locker she paid over $1,000 for. She found a "mid-evil" piece of furniture although from the picture it appears to be made with modern 2'x4's so though it may be a cool piece for a certain living room it's not some expensive collectible item.

Apparently she found some bayonets which they don't show pictures of or describe though they do talk about an autographed Jerry Rice football and she says she thinks she will make the money back off of that. Apparently she doesn't realize there has been a HUGE downturn in the sports card and collectibles market. A quick search on ebay shows dozens of autographed Jerry Rice footballs only three of which have bids and all are around $40, the several hundred like that football may have yielded years back. Some are priced as low as $4.99.

A few newbies were interviewed and said they saw the television shows and had to come check out an auction. Several said they had bought a unit or two but hadn't found any treaures...yet. With the volume it seems these buyers are buying at it I would imagine it will be quite a while if ever before they find anything like they saw on television.

Storage Auctions In The Media - Sanford Storage Wars

Here's another article that's again a bit of a re-tread of the same old stories every local paper was running when "Storage Wars" first hit the airwaves.

The Sanford Herald ran a story titled "Sanford Has It's Own Storage Wars." The article basically just recaps what a storage auction is and talks to a few attendees.

One thing which was interesting was one attentee who supposedly is a regular was complaining about the crowds brought out by the shows. He commented that...

“People see the show and think they can get rich quick, but this isn't California,”

This just stuck out as an interesting thought. I don't think it has anything to do with the show being in California. The other storage auction show "Auction Hunters" recently did a string of  episodes where they traveled the country showing the guys buying storage units full of goodies.

It's not that California has extra good stuff, it's that it's a reality television show and it's not exciting showing people buy units full of old panties and mattresses, it's more fun showing people finding guns, antiques, and other expensive items.

Because of this the shows obviously use a lot of editing and show the very best units or possibly even stage units.

Storage Auctions In The Media - Bid On A Surprise

Were starting a new category here at FreeStorageAuctionLists.Com and it's "Storage Auctions In The Media. "

The Ellicot City Patch a local newspaper just ran an article titled "Bid On A Mystery At Storage Unit Auctions." Nothing ground breaking here just a re-tread of the same articles every local newspaper was writing about storage auctions a year or two back when the television show Storage Wars hit the airwaves and Storage Auctions were the hottest new thing.

None the less it's an interesting article if your just getting into storage auctions. You can red it HERE
